Brighton 4, Liverpool 3 FA cup

I wrote most of this on the long coach journey home, whilst trying to hold in the fury of the shameful effort of the second half…

3 bhafc midfielders and they still had a spare man every time, a we were a right mess off the ball…

Outside of the diving, Barnes was pony again, no idea why he stayed on and Volkes who had a blinder went off.

Yes Buckley was marked well in the first half but it only took a 1-2 to set him free, dont sub him for the obviously star-struck Noone - however, he did have a niggle, so maybe it was justified?

Pity Noone got a bit start struck and it was dissapointing that he clapped off Gerrard but I firmly believe it’s out of his system now and I reckon Gus does too since he’s signed a new contract.

I was a little concerned as to why Brez look soo scared? He was going for the big catches but punching? That’s why he got dropped last season! I reckon Carroll gave him a big hit and he lost his bottle, that was a real pity cos the goalie is supposed to smash up forwards not he other way round.

Carroll did appear the key man, weirdly, we couldn’t compete with him in the air, Greer got beat a lot and watching Elabd try to mark him was funny and quite embarrassing but at least he gave his usual 100% to everything.

Caldi looked a bit lethargic again, happy to let the winger fly past him down the wing, while he goes deep to block the cross, the commentators on the telly had said he looked week. I think he’s just lost a lot pace since the big opp. Or maybe he’s got a bit of fear of doing it again, so he’s not letting him self turn quickly.

Nav was nearly good, almost marked Stevie-G well, cheeky late challenge on him for yellow, I kind of liked that, but also happy he didn’t injure him.

Bridcutt, Vicente, Kaza Vokes had a great game, even though you could see Kaza’s lack of passing inclination was annoying players like Vicente.

I’d have liked to have seen a 442 in the 2nd half of the 2nd half with Vokes & CMS up front.

Either way, we still scored more than them :-) We now hold the record for most own goals in an FA cup game and I believe we scored the most away goals at Anfield this season.

My best bit was missing their goal because Stevie-G was taking the corner and we all got star struck and just stared at him, along with the Albion defence apparently ;-)

It was comical, but a great day and a great lesson, we deserved to get there and did deserve to get more out of the game, but it’s all good!

Onwards and upwards: “In Gus we trust” - Amen to that!
